oh, lil. how have i let this time slip away? i often compose blog entries (in my mind) filled with charming lil anecdotes that i believe i will never forget. but here we are in october, in a new home. and you have learned to say "sponge bob squarepants" even though i tell you it was cuter when you said "fun fun fanwich." you still say "mom, us is goin' to the new house?" and i still reply "yes, us is goin'." i just can't bear to correct you yet. i don't want to lose this time of innocence and counting "lello" cars. you still want me to carry you. and i still want to even though it hurts my back with every step. you and i have shared a tumultuous 4 years. and you have been my one and only child. so, i want to be sure to maximize this time and space with you. and because you don't have a little brother or sister (who you so badly long for) i have free arms, a free hip. and a heart full of you.

dearest lil,

we have spent a good portion of the last month talking about being four. everything hinges on this. when you point out toys that you want, i tell you to put them on your birthday list. when you act up, we discuss how four year olds probably don't act quite like that. and when you're amazing and angelic, one of use will muse about how you must be four already. so, four is magical in our minds. and honestly, i don't think we'll be disappointed when it arrives in all its imperfection. because you are magic. and every day, you're learning and growing and becoming a beautiful person. you are empathetic and smart. you are funny. you are kind. i'm so proud to be your mom.

dear lillian,

you are so lively, dramatic, and free. you dance and sing around the house and you are just lovely. you are quite the artist as well. last night, you and i were sitting on the couch after the flyers concert and i asked you if you want to be a singer. you shook your head. i asked if you if you'd like to be an actress or an artist instead. you said "no." i listed off all kinds of jobs and you had no interest in becoming a doctor, teacher, or cop. i finally asked you to tell me what you want to be when you grow up. you looked at me and without hesitation, replied "a horsey."

that sounds good to me.

i like to draw everywhere. the walls, my toys, and especially on my skin. i went with my mom when she got her new tattoo last week and i have been designing my own tattoos ever since. today we colored mustaches on our faces with my new markers. cheers.

dear lillian,

today i walked into the kitchen to find that you had taken off your overalls, socks, and shoes all by yourself. you asked for help with your shirt and then you ushered me out of the room and led me by the hand to my computer. you walked back into the kitchen and proceeded to put your socks and shoes back on by YOURSELF! your shoes were on the wrong feet but, you got them on and strapped the velcro perfectly! i don't know when you decided that you wanted to undress and dress yourself, but it's such a huge milestone and i am so very proud of you. you are so brilliant!

i got my school pictures back. i know i don't look very happy, but i am. don't worry. i am a very happy and active girl. i love to sing and dance. mom just bought me some play dress up shoes that she always wanted when she was a little girl. they are pink and sparkly and i like to clomp around in them. i was a fairy for halloween and i wish i would have had the shoes in time to wear them with my wings. mom and i just had a conference at my school. i will be moving up to the curious cubs room in a couple weeks! i am potty training myself and have learned to count to 10. i just need to brush up a little on my shapes and colors now.

i had so much fun in august. i really started to figure things out. i am able to communicate with mom now and she understands me! i can count to 12 and sing baby owlette (owdette) and i really like to try to sing the alphabet. i love playing outside and coloring. i enjoy making my toys play with one another. it doesn't matter their size. polly pocket can have a great conversation with my barn animals. i am still sleeping in my crib and wearing diapers. i'm not sure when i'll be ready for changes in those areas...

p.s. mom broke both of her cameras. i kind of like it better that way. here is a picture our friend, bibes, took this weekend.

dear lily,
i will always remember july of 2006 as the month you morphed from a baby into a child.
you are a little person who communicates, sympathizes, laughs at jokes, and enjoys life!
you are actually a blast to hang out with. i find myself missing you around midnight when you have been sleeping for hours. i have taken to waking you up to snuggle, sing, giggle, and talk for a bit while falling asleep together. every night is like a sleepover with you. i love you.

high time i started writing

so, as many of you know i will be 2 years old on sunday. i think it's about time i started writing about my adventures as a toddler in the big city. i live a very busy life with my mom in minneapolis. we have a cute house that i like to run around. i enjoy coloring on the walls, couches, and windows. mom doesn't seem to mind very much. every once in a while she says "NO!" this is confusing to me. i don't know why i am allowed to do my art on some days but not on others. mom has been talking to me a lot lately about using a "potty." this sounds intriguing and i am interested in this special chair, but i really prefer not to sit on it. i really like being a big girl, but i hope i don't have to give up those tasty jars of sweet potatoes with the baby on the front any time soon. they are delish! "mah baby nums!" is something i love to yell at mom whenever i get a chance! hmmm, that's all for now. i have to go put my bears and blocks in order.
